L'exposition Noirs Miroirs a d'abord été présentée à la galerie Hubert Karaly en Novembre 2011, à Paris Photo 2011 et lors du parcours Paris je t'aime en Février 2012.
Elle est enrichie de sept nouvelles photos inédites tirées en 1 mètre par 80cm pour la REC galerie du 15 mars au 05 avril au 13 rue Sainte-Anastase dans le 3e arrondissement de Paris.
Léonard façonne ses photos en travaillant le négatif du polaroid qu’il récupère et transforme de façon unique et créative pour chaque photo, méthode uniquement possible avec l'objet concret qu'il représente, sorte de laboratoire expérimental : la photo devient un condensé.
Chaque photo a été numérisée puis reprise digitalement. Les deux médiums s'associent.
Les photos de cette série ont été prises à 2 mois d’intervalle entre la france et la californie.
On y aperçoit Henry Hopper, acteur et ami, rencontré au dernier festival Cannes et la côte du Big Sur en Californie près de laquelle habite Henry.
L'exposition enrichie à la REC galerie contient sept nouvelles photos tirées en 1m x 0,8m.
«La rencontre avec Henry fut assez intense, nous nous découvrions chacun à travers la chambre photo, Henri était alors mon premier sujet portrait avec Louise, le nom que nous donnions alors à l'appareil. Je l’ai suivi pendant son escale parisienne de 2 mois pour obtenir une suite de photos d’instants intimes et d’autres,mis en scène par Henry lui même.
Il redécouvrait le polaroid et surtout la chambre et s’amusait de poser devant un tel appareil tout en me disant au dernier jour : ok, I’m done, no more photos now»
«Le voyage américain sur les pas de Kerouac a été inspiré tardivement par les discussions avec Henri. Je décidai alors de partir avec ami Alexandre Devals pour parcourir en voiture le centre de la Californie de Napa à Las Vegas au Big Sur de Kerouac. Les photos portent l’empreinte du livre Mexico City Blues.
The exhibition Noirs Miroirs (Black Mirrors) was first shown at the Hubert Karaly's gallery last November, at the photo fair Paris Photo 2011 edition and during the Paris je t'aime exhibition. It will soon be shown in New York city .
The new edition of the exhibition at the REC gallery include seven new photographs on very large prints. 13 rue Sainte Anastase in Le Marais.
Léonard shapes his photos by working the polaroid negative through chemicals, presses inside books to get the words' ink, transforms in raw material, scratchs, dilutes into unique and creative photos. Each photo is then digitally scanned, the two ways merge.
The photos were shot during May and July 2011 between Cannes, Paris and California.
We can see Henry Hopper, actor and friend, met at the last Cannes film festival and the Big Sur (coast of california).
"Meeting Henry was quite intense, we were discovering each other through my large format camera (4 by 5 inches), Henry was my first model with "Louise" the name we actually gave my camera. I followed him for 2 months during his French stopover, giving me series of intimate moments and others screenplayed by Henry himself.
He was rediscovering polaroids but mostly discovering large format camera and found it amusingand fun to pose in front of such a strange object while telling me on the last day : ok I'm done, no more pictures now"
"The american trip on Kerouac's footsteps was inspired by discussions I had with Henri while in France. I told my friend Alexandre Devals to go there in July. We drove (mostly him) from San Francisco to Yosemite, Las Vegas and Kerouac's Big Sur. All the photos from California holds his mark, from the book "Mexico City Blues"
